HP, IBM, Dell, SGI to resell, OEM Qlogic Infiniband products
QLogic’s announced on Monday that its QDR InfiniBand adapters have been chosen by IBM, Dell, HP and SGI for high-performance computing (HPC) connectivity. Specifically, IBM will integrate QLogic’s 7300 Series 40Gb/sec. QDR (quad-data rate) InfiniBand host channel adapters (HCAs) into its IBM System X servers and the company’s iDataPlex solution. Dell will also integrate the HCAs with its PowerEdge servers and Precision workstations into HPC environments. Finally, HP will resell QLogic’s HCAs and its edge and director-level InfiniBand switches with both its ProLiant and BladeSystem c-Class servers and also offer them as part of the company’s HPC United Cluster portfolio. QLogic 7300 Series QDR InfiniBand-to-PCI Express 2 x8 host channel adapters are available in single- and dual-port models and have a unidirectional bandwidth of 3,400Mb/sec. As the size of clusters grow, additional compute nodes outfitted with QDR InfiniBand HCAs can be added to the cluster and the latency from the message passing interface (MPI) will remain flat. As for energy savings, the QLogic 7300 host channel adapters consume 3.8 watts in single-port and 4.8 watts in dual-port configurations and thus save power consumption in large HPC scale-outs. In addition, QLogic’s 7300 adapters have a small memory footprint and a connectionless operation that eliminates overhead that consumes host resources.
Jetico launches content erasing software
Jetico on Tuesday announced BCWipe version 4.0, software that erases the contents of any deleted file. BCWipe eliminates the task of erasing files, temporary files, caches objects and old versions.
Quantum rolls out two tape libraries
Quantum on Tuesday launched two new tape libraries for SMBs and distributed data centers. The Scalar i40 and i80 tape libraries start at $7,500 and include iLayer management software. The Scalar i40 can be expanded from 25 to 40 slots and the Scalar i80 scales from 50 to 80 slots. Users can turn on slot availability via a capacity on demand software license. Both libraries have Fibre Channel and Serial Attached SCSI interfaces and also AES 256-bit encryption.
Paragon Software intros backup for SMEs
Paragon Software on Tuesday introduced Drive Backup 10 Server Edition, backup software for SMEs that lets them deploy disaster recovery and system migration strategies in both physical and virtual environments. Drive Backup 10 Server Edition creates a duplicate image of the live disk drives on servers or workstations, including the operating system, all files, programs, updates, and databases. Additionally it includes a backup to FTP capability, scheduled backups, and support for Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 7. The software is priced at $499.
Nexenta Systems upgrades OpenStorage software
NexentaStor on Tuesday announced that NexentaStor 2.2 is now available. The software, which lets customers deploy SAN/NAS systems based on the ZFS file system, now includes automated provisioning and management of multiple NexentaStor storage systems. In addition, it support virtual machine management for VMware and Citrix XenServer. NexentaStor runs on industry standard x86 servers and provides NAS and SAN capabilities including support for CIFS, NFS, iSCSI and Fiber Channel storage access.
HP unveils notebook data protection and recovery
HP on Tuesday announced HP Data Protector Notebook Extension, software that backs up and recovers data stored on notebook and desktop PCs. Relying on backup policies, Notebook Extension works when users are offline – it captures data automatically every time a file is created or changed. Data is stored in a local repository temporarily for later transfer to a network data vault. In addition HP Data Protector Notebook Extension features deduplication, encryption and compression capabilities.
3X Systems intros cloud backup appliances for SMBs
3x Systems on Tuesday announced the 3x RBA (Remote Backup Appliances) that allow SMBs to deploy disaster recovery and backup and recovery services. The RBAs are installed at the customer site, where they backup data from Windows servers, desktops and laptops. The RBAs are then relocated to a disaster recovery site, where they continue to backup data on a scheduled basis. Each RBA also encrypts data. Users can recover their own files via a simple interface. The RBAs range in capacity from 100GB to 2TB and start at $2,500.
